Expression lines form as a result of repeated muscle movement. At first they are visible mainly when smiling, frowning or raising the eyebrows, but over time the lines may remain visible even when the face is at rest. Botulinum toxin injections temporarily reduce the activity of selected muscles and help soften expression lines.
The aim is not to make the face motionless. The dose and injection points are chosen according to facial anatomy, muscle activity and the desired result. A natural result preserves your personality and your usual facial expressions.

When does the result develop?
The effect usually starts to appear within a few days, and the final result is assessed after about two weeks. The duration of the effect is individual, often around 3–4 months, but it can be shorter or longer.
A follow-up visit is arranged if needed. The timing of a repeat procedure is decided based on how the effect wears off and on medical assessment.
Botulinum toxin injections for excessive sweating
Botulinum toxin can also be used to reduce excessive sweating, or hyperhidrosis. The injections temporarily block nerve signals from reaching the sweat glands in the treated area. The underarms are treated most often; the suitability and specific considerations of treating the palms and soles are discussed at the consultation.
The effect develops gradually and can last several months. The treatment does not remove the possible underlying cause of excessive sweating, so atypical or sudden-onset sweating may require additional medical evaluation.

Botulinum toxin is a prescription medicine. The suitability of the procedure, the dose, contraindications and possible side effects are assessed at the consultation. Temporary redness, swelling, tenderness or bruising may occur at the injection sites. Less commonly, temporary changes in the muscle balance of the treated area may occur.
