iPRF Hair Therapy

Hair thinning can have many causes, including heredity, hormonal changes, illnesses, medications, the postpartum period, nutrient deficiencies and severe stress. That is why it is important to assess before the procedure whether iPRF treatment is appropriate and whether the cause of the hair loss requires further investigation or other treatment.

iPRF therapy uses platelet-rich fibrin prepared from the patient's own blood, which is injected into the scalp in areas of thinning hair. The aim is to support the scalp environment and the normal function of existing hair follicles.

Who might iPRF suit?

  • As supportive treatment for androgenetic alopecia, i.e. hereditary hair thinning
  • Diffuse hair loss, after the cause has been assessed
  • As supportive treatment for hair loss following illness, stress or childbirth
  • Both women and men
  • As part of a treatment plan after hair transplantation, if the treating doctor considers it appropriate

How is the procedure performed?

The procedure begins with taking a small blood sample. The blood is centrifuged and the resulting iPRF preparation is injected into the scalp with fine needles. The procedure may cause brief stinging, tenderness or small bruises.

iPRF does not create new hair follicles, and the result depends on whether the follicles are still viable. For this reason, the procedure may not be suitable for long-standing, complete baldness.

Treatment course

We usually recommend 3–4 treatments at approximately four-week intervals. The result and the need for maintenance treatment are then assessed. Because of the hair growth cycle, changes are not immediate and it may take several months to evaluate the outcome.

If necessary, we recommend a consultation with a family doctor, dermatologist or other specialist and laboratory tests before starting the course.
